Marshall Islands to host 2010 Micro Games _English_Xinhua: "The Micronesian Games Council has awarded the hosting rights of the 2010 Micronesian Games to the Republic of the Marshall Islands.
Palau National Olympic Committee Secretary General Baklai Temingil wrote to Marshall Islands National Olympic Committee President Kenneth Cramer and Secretary General Terry Sasser informing them of the MGC's decision, the Pacnews, a Suva-based regional news agency, reported Monday.
The Marshall Islands earned the most number of votes from representatives from Palau, Kiribati, Yap, the Marshall Islands, Guam, Chuuk, Kosrae, and Pohnpeii.
The Marshall Islands is also the newest member of the International Olympic Committee in the Micronesia region. Palau, Guam, Nauru and Kiribati are also IOC members.
The Marshall Islands, a former U.S. territory, became the 203rd IOC member on Feb. 12, 2007. The IOC accepted the islands' National Olympic Committee in an executive board meeting during the 2006 Winter Olympics in Torino, Italy."

The former mayor of Salt Lake City, and President of Women's Ski Jumping USA, Deedee Corradini, says the International Olympic Committee is discriminating against women by not allowing them to compete in the 2010 Winter Olympics in Whistler.
She says women's ski jumping has advanced since the IOC decided to exclude it two years ago, 'If you compare our numbers of women and nations competing and the level of competition, and Canada has four top elite athletes that I think any one of whom could be on the podium in 2010.'
Corradini says the Vancouver Organizing Committee hasn't enforced equality for women because of concerns over budget and accomodations.
VANOC did not respond to requests for comment on Friday from CKNW."

For years, top athletes have won titles and then mugged for the camera while announcing they were heading to Disney World. Martin didn't proclaim his intentions to the world, but he has won titles, lots of them so far this year.
The Edmonton skip and his team of John Morris, Marc Kennedy and Ben Hebert have raked in $79,000 in official World Curling Tour cash, good enough for top spot on the circuit's money list. The rink also picked up another $61,000 for winning the Casino Rama Skins Game.
