CTV.ca | First Olympic hockey team may be honoured in 2010: "Efforts are underway to have Canada's first Olympic gold-medal-winning hockey team honoured at the 2010 Games in Vancouver, nearly 90 years after their victory.
The Winnipeg Falcons triumphed in hockey's Olympic debut, during a week of winter events at the Belgium Summer Games of 1920.
The team was mostly made up of poor Icelandic immigrants who had settled in Canada.
David Square, author of 'When Falcons Fly,' said the team's success is even more noteworthy because of their difficult background.
'These guys faced poverty, they faced discrimination, and they just wouldn't give up,' he told CTV News. 'They just kept going -- what a heart these guys had.'"
