globeandmail.com: Schedule for 2010 Winter games five years, 50 drafts in the making: "It couldn't be more fitting: The men's hockey gold-medal game at the Vancouver Olympic Games will wrap up the 17-day competition on Feb. 28, 2010. The Vancouver Organizing Committee released the schedule yesterday on Wednesday after approval from the International Olympic Committee. 'It's an extremely complex puzzle that, now solved, drives the entire Olympic experience,' said Cathy Priestner Allinger, executive vice-president of sport, Paralympic Games and venue management for VANOC. Organizers spent five years trying to juggle 86 events, 15 disciplines, seven sports, nine competition venues and the vagaries of winter weather to devise a program that also works with broadcasters and international sport federations. The schedule underwent six major revisions and more than 50 drafts. 'The heavy lifting on the schedule is now done,' Ms. Priestner Allinger said. 'The next step will be to determine the specific timing of events on each day.' A final schedule with specific event times will be released this summer. However, VANOC has already decided that ski jumping will go in the mornings at Whistler Olympic Park to take advantage of typically calmer winds.
